Podcast #8 Paramount Records and Puritan Records Show
Hi all,
This time the ten tunes from 78s are Paramount related items and hopefully I will be able to do another show at some point with ten more from this collectable label!
I have tried to be informative about the artists but I have left the history of the label alone for the most part. I feel that the history of Paramount Records is well enough documented on the internet and in books.
Tracklisting for this show:
1. SAM LANIN AND HIS ORCHESTRA (vocal by Charles Vaughn) - "FOR MY SWEETHEART" played from Paramount 20474. Recorded circa 1st September 1926.
2. SAM LANIN AND HIS ORCHESTRA (vocal by Arthur Fields) - ''ME TOO (HO HO! HA HA!)" played from Paramount 20472. Recorded circa 1st September 1926.
3. LUCILLE HEGAMIN AND THE BLUE FLAME SYNCOPATORS - ''ARKANSAS BLUES'' played from Puritan 11053. Recorded circa 1st February 1921.
4. THE HARRIS BLUES & JAZZ SEVEN (vocal chorus by Lucille Hegamin) - ''EVERYBODY'S BLUES'' played from Puritan 11053. Recorded circa 30th November 1920.
5. THE HOKUM BOYS - ''IT'S ALL WORN OUT'' played from Paramount 12796. Recorded on 27th June 1929.
6. THE HOKUM BOYS - ''SOMEBODY'S BEEN USING THAT THING'' played from Paramount 12796. Recorded on 27th June 1929.
7. JUNIE COBB & HIS HOMETOWN BAND - ''CHICAGO BUZZ'' played from Century 3006 (reissue of Paramount 12382). Recorded circa 1st August 1926.
8. JUNIE COBB & HIS HOMETOWN BAND - ''EAST COAST TROT'' played from Century 3006 (reissue of Paramount 12382). Recorded circa 1st August 1926.
9. BLIND LEMON JEFFERSON - ''JACK O DIAMOND BLUES'' played from Paramount 12373. Recorded circa 1st June 1926.
10. MA RAINEY - ''JELLY BEAN BLUES'' played from Paramount 14016. Recorded circa 15th October 1924.
I hope everyone enjoys this selection of recordings ... surface noise and all!
I do not 'restore' or 'remaster' these 78s, I just put them into my shows as they are and I think that is the best way to do things as I do not have the facilities or knowledge to make a decent job of removing the surface noise or clicks.
Thanks for listening!
